Announcing Gold Medal Books

The New Glarus Public Library is thrilled to announce the receipt of a 2024 New Glarus Community Foundation Grant!  The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin (serving Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock, Sauk, Vernon and Walworth counties) is a resource for area nonprofit organizations whose programs and services are working for the betterment of our communities.  Grants from the New Glarus Community Foundation have supported the arts, education, environment, health and human services and historic preservation.

This grant will fund a new K-12 independent reading program, Gold Medal Books, which will be launching in the spring.  This program will challenge students to read award-winning books in a wide range of genres and formats. The book list will include (but is not limited to), Caldecott, Newbery, and Prinz award winners and honor books. Because the book lists encompass every reading level, from beginner picture books to adult-level novels, students of all ages can read books suitable to their developmental levels. The program will be entirely self-paced, meaning that students can complete as many (or as few) reading challenges per year as they wish.  The flexibility of the program format means that it can be adapted to meet students where they are, and grow with them.

Stay tuned in the coming months for more information on this exciting new program!
