The Kate Greenaway Medal for Illustration was established in 1955, and named for 19th-century British children's book illustrator Kate Greenaway. This British award is given annually to recognize "distinguished illustration in a book for children, and is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. In 2022, the award was renamed the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration, against considerable outcry from the general public, who are campaigning to have Kate Greenaway's name restored to the award.
All of the medal winners and honorees are eligible for Gold Medal Books. The books on this list encompass a wide range of reading levels and genres.
