New Glarus Public Library Thanks the Community for Another Great Year
’Tis the season of gifting and gratitude! The New Glarus Public Library and the Library Board of Trustees are thankful for another year of community backing, and for two special gifts - both of which are new ways of giving to the library.
The first gift came this spring, from an anonymous donor, who challenged the Library Board with a matching gift of up to $10,000 to the Operational Reserve Fund with the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. Our generous supporters met the challenge, which resulted in a total of $20,000 to this fund. This fund can be used to help with the daily operational expenses of the library, as well as funding for special programs, acquiring new technology, expanding the collection, or taking advantage of exceptional opportunities.
The second special gift involved furnishings for the library building project from the UW - Madison College of Engineering, who is repurposing their library. The Library Board negotiated the donation and delivery of several items, including a circulation and reference desk as well as enough shelving for the new library. This gift will save well over $40,000 in furnishing the new building. The Swiss Center of North America has graciously agreed to store all of these furnishings until it can be installed into the new library.
The New Glarus Public Library Board and staff are grateful for the generosity of our community as we continue the work to move this project forward.
