The Friends of the New Glarus Public Library is a non-profit community volunteer organization dedicated to improving library services and facilities. We organize activities and programs and purchase materials that are beyond the regular library budget.

Upcoming Friends Events at the New Glarus Public Library:

Monthy Friends Meeting — our monthly Friends meetings focus on future fundraising activity planning to support the library. Future activities we are working on include the annual book sale, holiday gift tree, children’s and adult programs and more. We are also very concerned with generating more public awareness and support for getting an enhanced public library built for our community.  Please join us on the 3^rd Thursday of every month at 7 pm at the library.  Best of all, all donations to the Friends are tax-deductable!

Library Support from the Friends:

Ongoing and Past Purchases: Friends fundraising activities, coupled with your donations, have provided the following materials and services to enhance our community’s library:

• Books - Children’s books, large print books, and other library materials for circulation
• StoryLine –  children can call to listen to a new recorded story each week bedtime, naptime, anytime -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – 527-4363
• Performances - We brought Ken Lonnquist & Friends to the village to perform their musical, The Legend of Old Befana in 2003 & 2004. We also brought the Traveling Lantern Theatre Troupe to perform The Sword in the Stone in 2005 and The Hobbit in 2006.
• Teen Read Week  - provided Book store gift certificates as reading incentives to recognize and celebrate Teen Read Week
• New Baby Packages – To congratulate new parents and welcome New Glarus newborns, we send out packages containing board books, born to read bibs, and information about the importance of reading and the library to all newborns in New Glarus
• Adult learning programs – Programs include Beginning German Classes, Crafting Workshops, Knitting Night, Book Discussions, Music Performances, Movie showings and more
• Public Performance Movie License – Purchased this important license that allows the library to show movies for community viewing
• Digital camera for patron check-out
• DVD player for patron check-out
• Large Display Case
• Videocassette Return Box in lobby of Village Hall

We Urgently Need an Enhanced Library — Our library facility is too small for our wonderful collection of materials and too small to provide the space necessary to accommodate all patron’s accessibility requirements. The shelves are overflowing, the aisles are cramped, and there is no space for quiet reading or study. The staff is forced to spend precious time rearranging materials that are precariously placed throughout the library and the cramped staff work area. The library is critically short of space! We need your help and support to solve this dilemma and reach the goal of an expanded library! Contact us if you would like to help the Friends fundraise for our library!

Join The Friends Today!

You can be a Friend of the Library by donating your time, talents, or membership dues. If you would like to take an active part in the Friends Fundraising activities, simply call the New Glarus Public Library at 608-527-2003, and the library staff will connect you with one of the volunteer Friends. You can also become a member by attending the next meeting. Friends meetings last one hour and are held throughout the year on the third Thursday of every month at 7 pm in the library. Please join us by printing and completing this on-line form.
