2008 SUMMER PROGRAM
at the New Glarus Public Library
Thanks for a Successful Summer!
The New Glarus Public Library’s 2008 summer reading was a great success! For the first time we offered a preschool “read-to-me” program - it was so popular that we’re keeping it as regular part of our summer. Also new this year – children and teens kept track of the time they spent reading instead of the number of books. Here are the results:
Our New Glarus children & teens spent a total of 1,084 hours reading – that translates into a little over 45 days of solid reading!
Studies have shown that children and teens who participate in a summer library program return to school without any reduction in their reading skills – and in most cases, return to school with improved reading skills and an increased enjoyment of reading.
In addition to the three reading programs this summer our Library presented 14 special events relating to our summer reading themes. These events were attended by a total of 492 children, teens, and adults.
Now it’s time to say our thanks. Thanks to the New Glarus Village Hall staff for their ongoing support of our summer programs (and for putting up with all the noise!). And thanks to these individuals and organizations for contributing their time, talent, and resources to the success of our summer:
